Elementary School
Kindergarten through 6th Grade at Living Oaks Academy
At Living Oaks Academy, our Kindergarten through 6th Grade program is designed to provide a strong educational foundation while fostering a love for learning in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment. We emphasize hands-on experiences, collaborative projects, and individualized instruction to help students grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
A Foundation for Lifelong Learning
We believe that early childhood and elementary education should be engaging, meaningful, and tailored to each child’s developmental stage. Our curriculum integrates core academic subjects with creative exploration, problem-solving, and faith-based instruction. By fostering curiosity and encouraging students to take ownership of their learning, we prepare them for success in middle school and beyond.
Curriculum Overview
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
In these foundational years, we focus on developing literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills through play-based and hands-on learning activities. Small class sizes ensure that each child receives personalized attention, and our teachers use multi-sensory approaches to cater to different learning styles. Key focus areas include:
- Phonics and early reading skills to build strong literacy foundations
- Basic math concepts such as counting, addition, and subtraction
- Science exploration through nature studies and simple experiments
- Social studies focusing on community, history, and cultural awareness
- Fine arts and music to encourage creativity and expression
3rd – 4th Grade
As students grow, they transition into more structured learning experiences while continuing to engage in hands-on, project-based learning. They begin to develop critical thinking skills, independence, and collaboration abilities. Our curriculum at this stage includes:
- Expanding literacy skills with comprehension strategies and writing development
- Mathematical problem-solving involving multiplication, division, and fractions
- Science investigations using experiments and STEM activities
- History and geography through interactive projects and storytelling
- Public speaking and presentation skills to build confidence
- Biblical studies integrated with daily lessons to strengthen faith and character
5th – 6th Grade
K5-6th grades are divided by ability into Pods. Students work closely with teachers in small groups and one on one to continue to grow academically. This allows us to slow down the work for students with disabilities and push the gifted students that need more challenge.
Students at this level engage in deeper inquiry and independent learning while preparing for middle school challenges. Our program encourages leadership, responsibility, and a growth mindset. Core academic and enrichment subjects include:
- Advanced reading comprehension with analysis of literature and nonfiction texts
- Mathematical reasoning covering pre-algebra concepts and problem-solving techniques
- Scientific inquiry involving hands-on experiments and research projects
- U.S. and world history studies with interactive discussions and critical analysis
- Technology integration through presentations and digital research
- Character development and leadership training rooted in Christian principles
