Jr High School for 7th-9th Grade

Jr High school for 7th-9th Grade at Living Oaks Academy

Middle school is a transformative period where students begin to develop a greater sense of independence, critical thinking skills, and responsibility for their learning. At Living Oaks Academy, we provide a dynamic and engaging educational experience that challenges students academically while fostering teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Our approach is centered around project-based learning, one-on-one tutoring, and collaborative teamwork to promote independence and inspire students to solve real-world problems.

Project-Based Learning

Project-based learning (PBL) is the cornerstone of our middle school curriculum. Rather than simply memorizing facts, students are encouraged to explore complex questions, conduct research, and collaborate to build semester-long projects that extend beyond traditional classroom learning.

  • Asking the Right Questions: Students begin every project by asking an essential question that guides their project. This question is designed to be open-ended and thought-provoking, encouraging deep exploration and creativity.
  • Research and Collaboration: Once a question is established, students conduct in-depth research using various sources. They work together, pooling their knowledge and ideas to find innovative solutions.
  • Hands-On Application: students are challenged to test, evaluate, apply, and expand  their knowledge through experiments, prototypes, collaboration, and community presentations. Through this model, students develop independence, time management, problems solving skills, and a habit of excellence that will serve them in high school and in daily life.
  • Beyond the Answer: Rather than stopping at a simple response, students take their learning further by creating something meaningful, whether it's a product, a presentation, or a community initiative that demonstrates their understanding.

Through this model, students develop independence, time management, and problem-solving skills that will prepare them for high school and beyond.

One-on-One Tutoring for Personalized Learning

Recognizing that each student learns at their own pace, Living Oaks Academy offers individualized one-on-one tutoring to provide additional support where needed. Our teachers and mentors work closely with students to strengthen their understanding of core subjects while also developing study skills and self-confidence. Whether a student needs reinforcement in math, guidance in writing, or help structuring their research projects, our personalized approach ensures that no student is left behind.

Teamwork: Promoting Independence and Inspiring Collaboration

We believe that teamwork is a critical life skill that prepares students for future academic and career success. Our middle school program emphasizes collaboration, communication, and leadership in every aspect of learning.

  • Working in Teams: Students are placed in small groups where they must learn to delegate tasks, communicate effectively, and support one another.
  • Solving Real-World Problems: Through group projects, students tackle issues relevant to their communities and the world, from environmental sustainability to technological innovation.
  • Building Leadership Skills: Teamwork opportunities help students develop leadership abilities as they take on different roles within their groups.
  • Balancing Independence and Cooperation: While students must collaborate, they are also encouraged to take ownership of their learning, making independent contributions to group projects.

Four Classes Per Semester

To provide a well-rounded education while allowing for deep exploration of subjects, Living Oaks Academy middle school students take four core classes per semester. These classes integrate interdisciplinary learning and project-based experiences to maximize engagement and comprehension.

  • Core Subjects: Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Social Studies
  • Electives: The students do not necessarily CHOOSE their areas, but they do experience Creative art lessons, drama lessons, music experiences, physical education, bible studies, worship, and we want to add technological resources.
  • Project-Based Inquiry: Each class includes a major project where students research, create, and present their findings in a creative way.
